How to become a songwriter

It’s time to pick up the pen and start

You don’t need any experience to start writing songs. You can simply start exactly where you are at this moment.

Dear creative one who longs to write songs,

We know you dream of writing songs and sharing your songs with others. Fragments of song ideas play over and over in your head, but perhaps no one has shown you how to turn those ideas into a song. Or maybe you’ve only done it a few times and you’re not sure how to make that happen again. Perhaps it feels like the older you get, the harder it is – and the further away you feel from finally being a songwriter.

We hear you and we can help you turn your dream into a reality, one step at a time, one song at a time.

You have everything you need to get started, right now. The first thing you need to do is make a decision.

Yes, I’m going to start writing songs. Enrol in our beginner songwriting course.

It’s never too late to write your first songs and to learn how to become a songwriter.

We’ve had the absolute joy of helping people of all ages become songwriters. Really, all ages! From 10 to 70 years old. Trust us, age is not a barrier to writing songs! A possible barrier could be your level of skill, your confidence around writing songs or your willingness to step into doing something unfamiliar.

Making time to write songs could be a barrier too. And we get it, life is busy, there are lots of other things that you need to be doing – things that are ‘more important’. You really could keep telling yourself that. But you dream of writing songs, so why not start living your dream life now? And what if we told you that you could do that in just 2 hours a week?

Here are some next steps to get you started with songwriting:

Before you know it, you’ll have a good handful of songs that will show you that it’s possible to be living your dream life. And that’s just the start!

I have been in I Heart Songwriting Course now for a year and have watched myself go from writing 0 songs to having technique, craft, and many many songs that I can continue to develop under my belt.

EVERYONE is so supportive, regardless of your level of experience – it is a wonderful environment to learn and develop your songwriting skills, or to kick start your journey of songwriting.

Tamika, Port Macquarie, Australia

I just wrote 10 songs in 10 days – my first songs ever!! It’s life changing. A few times I had tears of wonder and joy when I listened back to my song. I am now, at 50, a song writer. No one showed me how as a child. They have now. I have a goal to write 50 songs in 50 weeks. Oh yes!!!

Adrienne, Brisbane, Australia

Gosh, I love I Heart Songwriting Club. I’ve gone from having three half songs, to having a full catalogue of songs, gigging my own music and recording a debut EP. It is the only thing I’ve found that makes me prioritise my own creative work and well-being. Literally life changing!
