Your Songwriting Task

Theme: Immunity
Guideline: Position your song in the forest
Extra Guideline: Restrict your verse melody to 2 notes/pitches. You can repeat those 2 notes as much as you like.
Time Limit: 1 hour
Listening Guide: Having a songwriting task doesn’t restrict our members in what they write, it’s simply a starting point. Can you hear how these songs relate to the theme of “immunity”, even in a non-specific way?

“I’d just moved out of my home. Left everything. I was living under a friend’s house, sharing my bed with my dog, drinking too much red wine and watching endless episodes of “The Walking Dead”, imagining I was warrior woman, Michonne, from said HBO show, wielding a massive samurai sword, protecting my people from impending doom and apocalypse. Where would I go? Where would I hide? Who would I turn to? Who would I protect and call my own? Who would call me their own? Where would I hide?! How much longer do we have?”

“I wrote some lyrics this morning about walking in the forest l but couldn’t find the right chords or melody for it. It was very sweet. Too sweet. So I plugged my electric guitar (NEW guitar) in and tried to find a ‘walking’ rhythm on guitar. I found this blues guitar sound and the backing vocals came to me first which I recorded, and then worked the main melody around them. This no longer relates to immunity or the forest which I think breaks all this weeks rules but I LOVE it (maybe cause I get to be a diva)! The lyrics are inspired by when I walked the Camino across Spain.”
